On this news day I decided to do my story on the cost of living and what impact it might have on local sports centres. I thought it was a very good idea to do this as there was plenty news around it and not only that, it is affecting people around me including my family and friends so I believed it to be extremely relevant and wanted to dig into it deeper. This week I was ready with some good sources in mind. The first person I was going to interview was someone who worked in the council, which was great because she could give me a detailed insight to how the council spent money and try’s to keep things like leisure centre open.
My other source was someone who worked at Hedford leisure centre who explained how they are being affected financially following Corona Virus. This gave me a more detailed perspective to what was actually going on and how places were trying to solve it.
The next step was finding athletes to talk to, to understand how it was affecting them. Luckily I I already knew some swimmers from school and I spoke to them in depth about it. For some reason I didn’t get any content for my social media or my story which was very daft if I’m being honest. I think I was too set on getting a good interview I forgot to get some good pictures. This is something I have learnt, I need to keep a mental list of everything that is needed for my story to make it complete and tick it off. It’s worth going out and securing great pictures because this is the first thing people see. Admittedly, my pictures have not been up to scratch a lot of the time and this is something I’m trying to get better at.
Today’s news day went quite smoothly because I had a good angle and direction from the start, but I think my work rate when coming to write up the story could be better. Sometimes I overthink and take a long time on the story. But sometimes if you get writing the story takes shape and you can rearrange it when sub editing it. I took a lot away from this news day but the main thing was having confidence when calling people. I used to get nervous and therefore not ask the questions I would have liked. Also letting them just talk rather than accidents interrupting them, because that does not make for good multi media.
